This painting takes its name from the legendary “warp spasm” of the Irish hero Cú Chulainn. In the old stories, his body would twist into something almost inhuman, his rage giving him unstoppable strength but setting him apart from everyone else. Victories won in that state felt less like triumphs and more like burdens carried alone.
The work is alive with fire and motion—every detail burning with intensity. It speaks to the duality of battle: the power to overcome, and the cost of carrying that power afterward. That tension between strength and isolation echoes far beyond myth, touching the lived experiences of many warriors.
Ríastrad is both ferocity and vulnerability, chaos and control—the beauty and the burden of transformation.
This work is based on the real-life courage of veteran Tim Colomer, Marine and EOD technician, Purple Heart recipient. This fiery, intensely detailed painting explores the duality of battle: the extraordinary power to overcome and the personal cost that can leave warriors isolated. A tribute to myth, heroism, and the complex inner world of those who serve.
From the deepest part of my soul, thank you for your sacrifice for our freedom.
24” x 16” original oil painting. Floating Frame, varnished and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
